About
Baudelaire’s Bookshop is a secondhand bookstore with the most comprehensive selection of used, vintage, antique books in Vancouver, BC. The brick-and-mortar shop features floor to ceiling bookshelves and towering piles of books in the aisles. A home for book lovers and collectors alike.
Project Goals
The goals for this project were to create a comprehensive branding package including a logo, style guide, business cards + stationery, and digital/print advertisements. The shop also needed to establish an online presence through a website that would detail its goods and services.
Design Solution
I chose a design approach to reflect the shop’s whimsical, almost carefree method of operations, while still conveying its warm, welcoming, and personable atmosphere. In addition to the website and mobile configuration, I implemented an online shop to modernize business operations through e-commerce in order to expand their sales and increase their reach.
Logo
For the logo, I wanted to create a design that would reflect a store with character. I drew inspiration from the towering stacks of books throughout the shop, which is one of its main attractions.
Colours
I used a complementary colour palette (reddish browns + a green accent colour) in order to reflect a cozy, charming, and bookish atmosphere. I selected a white base colour reminiscent of old book pages, while the reddish browns reflect the exterior of antique books.
Typography
I chose the typeface "Surabanglus" for its handwritten style, which I felt complemented the haphazardness of the logo and reflected the store's peculiar yet personable character. I selected "Benguiat Pro ITC" and "Bookmania" for their elongated serifs and readability.
